Preparation for the procedure
Preparation for the electroencephalography procedure includes several key steps:
- All metal jewelry and accessories should be removed before the EEG procedure, as they can affect the accuracy of the recording.
- Hair should be kept clean and dry. Do not use conditioners, oils, or hairspray before the procedure, as they may interfere with the attachment of the electrodes.
- On the eve of the procedure, getting a good night's sleep is important. Sometimes, it may be necessary to lack sleep before the EEG.
- You should tell your doctor about any medications you are taking. Your doctor may recommend temporarily changing your intake or dosage.
- It is necessary to follow the usual diet before the procedure to avoid hypoglycemia, which can affect the EEG results.
- It is important to be calm and relaxed before and during the procedure.

EEG Process
The EEG procedure begins with preparation. The patient will be asked to sit or lie down, and then a special helmet with electrodes will be put on the head.
The electrodes connected to the EEG machine are attached to the scalp using a special gel to improve conductivity. During the procedure, the device records the electrical activity of the brain.
A standard EEG usually takes about 1 hour, including preparation and recording. Once the recording is complete, the electrodes are removed, and the gel is removed from the scalp.
The patient can leave the medical facility immediately after the procedure. No special rest is required after the EEG.
Contraindications
- Acute infectious diseases of the brain.
- Severe skin diseases in the area of electrode application.
- Recent brain surgeries.
- Severe mental disorder that prevents the patient from remaining at rest during the procedure.
